Shasta College Fire Academy Earns FESHE Certification, Partnership with Columbia Southern University

The Shasta College Fire Academy was awarded The Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) Recognition certificate in the fall of 2024. According to the FESHE website, the certificate is “…an acknowledgment that a collegiate emergency services degree program meets the minimum standards of excellence established by FESHE professional development committees and the National Fire Academy.” Shasta College joins eight other two-year higher education institutions and 15 four-year universities, which have earned this distinctive recognition.

For those students and current professional firefighters looking to elevate their education and career opportunities further, Shasta College partnered with Columbia Southern University (CSU) late in 2024. This partnership will provide students with a seamless transfer from the AS degree offered at Shasta College to a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration.

Director of Fire Technology/EMS at Shasta College, Don Lacy, said, “The recognition from the FESHE is a testament to the hard work and depth of experience of all our instructors and staff have brought to our program. With the CSU partnership, we are able to take our program offerings to the next level to provide skillsets and career opportunities that will continue to help our students and professionals in their understanding of this field and enhance their ability to protect themselves, their teams, and the communities they serve.”
