CURRENT SITUATION
• We had 86 cases Thursday, including 40 men and 46 women:
– 3 children under age 13
– 11 teenagers
– 16 people in their 20s
– 9 people in their 30s
– 11 people in their 40s
– 13 people in their 50s
– 8 people in their 60s
– 6 people in their 70s
– 8 people in their 80s
– 1 person over age 89
• We are sorry to have to report three deaths today. They were a man in his 70s, a woman in her 70s and a man over 89.

• Question: When and how can I get vaccinated? Answer: We are vaccinating people in Phase 1A (healthcare workers, long-term care facilities) and people 75 and older. Options are listed at www.ShastaReady.org (click “Vaccinations”). If you don’t see an option that works for you and if you are eligible now, there are two ways to get on the list to be scheduled for an appointment. You can select the blue oval labeled “Tell me when it’s my turn” and complete the short survey, or if you don’t have internet access, call (530) 245-7890. Both options will get you on one master list, and Public Health will call or email you to set up an appointment.

• Myth: I have symptoms and someone in my household has COVID. I know I have it, so there’s no reason for me to get tested. Fact: Having a positive test can prevent you from needing to be quarantined in the near future. For example, if you test positive and you are identified as a close contact of a positive case within 90 days of your positive test, you do not need to be quarantined. However, if Public Health does not have a confirmed positive test on file for you, we can’t exclude you from quarantine, even though it’s likely you had COVID. Tests are free, quick and easy, and you can make an appointment at lhi.care/covidtesting.

• You must wait at least 14 days after a flu or pneumonia vaccine before you receive a COVID vaccine.
