• We are sorry to have to report three deaths today. They were a man in his 70s and two men over age 89.
• Anyone can be tested for COVID-19 and same-day appointments are often available. Average turnaround time is between 2 and 3 days. Testing is critical to help contain the spread of COVID-19 – it is vital to know if a person has the virus, so they can remain isolated until they are no longer contagious. This helps keep case numbers low. Testing can also help us get out of the purple tier. When the county’s per capita testing volume is higher than the state average, it reduces our case rate. We need our case rate and positivity rates to drop so we can move into a less restrictive tier, and testing is a way we can all help with that. You can make an appointment at lhi.care/covidtesting.
• The state epidemiologist has authorized the use of lot 41L20A of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which was temporarily paused on Sunday due to possible allergic reactions. These findings should continue to give residents confidence that vaccines are safe and effective, and that the systems put in place to ensure vaccine safety are rigorous and science-based. Shasta County had administered doses from this lot at its mass vaccination clinic on Saturday, before the pause, and no one reported ill effects. The county has about 2,400 more doses from that lot which will now be distributed to local providers.
