Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is seeking submissions from California landscape artists who are interested in participating in the Superintendent’s Invitational-Park-Residency.
Up to five professional landscape artists will have the opportunity stay in a cabin at Whiskeytown for up to two weeks to develop paintings inspired by the unique landscape of the park. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is 3.5 hours north of San Francisco and 2 hours north of Sacramento; it covers 42,000 acres of land nestled among the hills of California’s Klamath Mountains. Boasting majestic waterfalls, towering ponderosa pines, mountain wildlife, hiking trails, and a crystal clear lake, Whiskeytown will provide artistic inspiration.
In exchange for their stay, participating artists will be asked to donate to the park an original artwork representative of their time at Whiskeytown.
Landscape artists are encouraged to submit by sending on CD 5-10 images of recent works, their artist’s resume, and date preference for their stay to: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Superintendent’s Invitational, P.O. Box 188, Whiskeytown, CA 96095. Submissions must be received no later than Dec. 20, 2009.
More information on the park can be obtained on the park’s website: www.nps.gov/whis or by contacting Whiskeytown.art@gmail.com.
