
On June 3rd, 2018 at 5:12 PM, officers from the Redding Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Placer Road and Continental Street in Redding. Citizens called to report that a vehicle and juvenile riding a skateboard just collided. Officers arrived to find 15 year old Michael Janda, of Redding, suffering from major injuries. Janda was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Through their investigation, Officers learned that Janda was riding his skateboard east on Placer Road toward Continental Street. Janda was traveling down a large hill and was moving quickly. Sarah Allpress, 30 years of Redding, was driving north on Continental Street towards Placer Road in a Pontiac Grand Am. Allpress, who was wearing her seatbelt, entered the intersection with a green light while Janda, who was not wearing a helmet, entered against a red light. Janda collided with Allpress’ vehicle and immediately fell to the ground. Allpress was not injured during the collision.
Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in this collision. The collision caused a partial road closure at the intersection of Continental Street and Placer Road for approximately one hour.
