Shasta County Sheriff Michael L. Johnson declared a State of Emergency on Monday, December 22, 2025, due to flooding across numerous Shasta County communities.

Declaring a State of Emergency allows the California State Office of Emergency Services (OES) and allied agencies to mobilize and assist the county with road conditions, search and rescue operations, and hazard mitigation, if necessary.

With more stormy weather forecasted to impact Shasta County through the week, residents are urged to be vigilant, especially near rivers or streams, and to never cross a road closed barricade or a road with water running across it. Even when the rain stops, water can continue to flow and rise for quite some time.

Anyone that becomes stranded or feels like they may need emergency assistance should call 911.

Everyone is asked to sign up for the AlertShasta emergency notification system. Sign up or check your status at: https://alertshasta.genasys.com/portal/en.
