Shasta Forward Calls for Jones’ Censure After Unpermitted Protest in County Chambers

At the behest of Supervisor Patrick Jones this morning, a small group of a couple dozen Shasta Recall activists held an unpermitted protest in the Shasta County Administration Building and Board Chambers.

Today’s regularly-scheduled board meeting was cancelled. Nevertheless demonstrators crashed the chambers to air a series of tired grievances towards private citizens, gathered recall petition
signatures, and filmed each other on public property for a planned for-profit documentary.

“With fires raging and smoke in the air making it difficult for some Shasta County residents to
breathe, now is not the time for divisive protests, but for our community to come together in
support of first responders, evacuees and victims,” said Shasta Forward spokesman Eric
Eisenhammer.

“We’re especially disappointed in Supervisor Jones for encouraging this unpermitted demonstration. Now is not the time for grandstanding. Local officials should have their full attention focused on helping constituents impacted by the fires and public safety power shutoffs (PSPS).”

Recall Shasta is also currently under investigation by the Fair Political Practices Committee (FPPC) for campaign finance violations. The filming of the docuseries and gathering signatures onsite raise further questions about the legality of their conduct.

Supervisors Rickert, Chimenti & Moty remain focused on leading our communities through these
challenging times. When Sacramento tried to shut Shasta County down, Supervisors Rickert,
Chimenti & Moty stood shoulder to shoulder with our local business owners and not a single
citation was issued by county officials.

Local residents can count on them to continue this leadership and to not get distracted by divisive
politics such as was on display in the county’s otherwise empty chambers today.

Shasta Forward was formed to oppose the effort to recall Supervisors Rickert, Chimenti and Moty.
