On Saturday, January 1, 2011, at 2:17 AM, officers of the Redding Police Department were dispatched to a reported disturbance in a parking lot on Hilltop Drive just north of Dana Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male on the ground bleeding from the head. The investigation revealed the victim, Jason R. Phillips, age 29 of Redding, and his girlfriend, Jeannie M. Gastineau, age 34 of Redding, had been arguing in the parking lot. Gastineau was driving a beige 1992 Ford Taurus, while Phillips was standing in the parking lot.
During the argument, Gastineau accelerated through the parking lot and struck Phillips with the Taurus. Phillips received severe head injuries as a result of being struck and was transported to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance.
Gastineau was evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. She was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony DUI, felony reckless driving, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and a DUI probation violation.
At the time of this release, Phillips was listed in critical condition at Mercy Medical Center.
