Retrofit-Building RFPs Sought for Police HQ

From press releases

The city of Redding is formally seeking proposals for potential buildings and/or property that could be retrofitted for use as a new police facility.

A Request for Proposals was released today (March 26, 2009), detailing criteria necessary for submissions of potential sites for the facility. The RFP is available for review on the city website;  click on Purchasing Bid Opportunities in the left column.

The RFP information also is being distributed to Redding-area trade groups and other organizations related to real estate and development.

The RFP is the first of a two-step process approved by the City Council to examine potential buildings that could be modified for use as a police facility.

The second step involves evaluation of the proposals and selection of a preferred candidate and possibly others to continue in the review process. Those offering retrofit building candidates must submit sealed proposals by 3 p.m. May 8, 2009, to the City’s Purchasing Division at City Hall, 777 Cypress Avenue.

The proposals must provide information as outlined in the RFP, including general information and specifics about the building and site. More detailed information, such as geotechnical reports, engineering studies, topography and seismic standards data, may be required of the proposer before a preferred option is ultimately selected and recommended to the City Council.

This process is part of an effort to replace the existing 61-year-old police facility on California Street, which is significantly undersized and in need of costly renovation. A replacement facility is proposed to accommodate the entire department, a portion of which is in a leased facility in the former downtown Mall.
