Flash Mob: Inspired Dance at Shasta College in Redding

inspired-dance-3

There are some really great artistic performances in Redding this season.

Last month Rhonda (Nelson, Mike’s wife) was watching one of the many flash mobs circulating on the Internet and was inspired to think, “I can do that!”

One in particular, the Black Eyed Peas performance on Oprah’s program, inspired Rhonda to do her version of a flash mob, in the college cafeteria.

At 12:22 on 11-20-09, nearly 50 students broke out in spontaneous dance when music blared throughout the room. First it was Rhonda tapping her foot.
Then Lindsay, one of Kendra’s friends who helped teach others the dance, began to join Rhonda.
A few bars later, people that seemed to be studying, got up and joined in.

Some just sat and ignored the “crazy people.” Others smiled and clicked photos on their phones.

In the end, cafeteria workers, in aprons joined — a man dressed in a camo jacket, stocking hat and gloves, while others turned the cafeteria into center stage.

When the music stopped, everyone dissipated and quietly, quickly, the room returned to students playing cards, studying and eating.

Everyone had a smile, and that is always a good thing.
