Shasta County Registrar of Voters Cathy Darling Allen.
After first being elected Shasta County Clerk in 2006 and serving the community for more than two decades as a public servant, Cathy Darling Allen has announced her intention to retire this year. In her time as County Clerk, she has overseen 40 successful elections and helped the more than 188,000 residents of Shasta County marry, open businesses, prepare for international travel, and vote.
Darling Allen will continue to serve as County Clerk and Registrar of Voters through the March election and post-election period, providing guidance to and overseeing the Clerk’s office staff.
The Shasta County Clerk’s office remains fully focused on preparing for the upcoming election. We plan to provide additional information about this transition at the end of April, ahead of Darling Allen’s anticipated last day of May 5, 2024.
A Personal Letter from Cathy Darling Allen to the Shasta County Community
“Dear Shasta County voters and residents,
It’s bittersweet to share with you that I intend to retire on May 5, 2024 after two decades in service to this wonderful community. Until then, I will continue to guide and support the dedicated, professional team at the Clerk’s office as we prepare for both this transition, and to run the next election without disruption.
I want to say thank you for your confidence and support of me and the Shasta County Clerk’s Office. It’s been a privilege to facilitate your votes, marriages, travel, and business — and to have done so honestly, transparently, and in compliance with state and federal laws.
Over the years, so many of you have reached out with well wishes, flowers, cookies, and prayers to my office. It has been my greatest honor to serve this beautiful community as your County Clerk, and I would ask that your prayers continue as I work through a new health challenge and make a transition in my life.
I have been diagnosed with heart failure. An essential part of recovering from this diagnosis is stress reduction. As many election officials could probably tell you right now, that’s a tough ask to balance with election administration in the current environment. I feel strongly that my family must be my priority at this time. They have already sacrificed so much, and I must repay that investment by retiring and focusing on my health.
Again, thank you with all my heart for your confidence, trust and support in my job as Shasta County Clerk. I have served with a group of extremely competent and prepared professionals, and I have every confidence in them. I hope you will share your generous spirit of support with these dedicated public servants as they continue their excellent work.
Regards,
Cathy Darling Allen”
