Shasta College is pleased to present an exhibit of the recent works of Thai Mainhard. Thai is an abstract painter and Shasta College alum who works and lives in Los Angeles, California. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Thai draws inspiration from human experiences and the tensions found in daily life. The exhibition will be on display from January 16-March 29, 2024, at the Shasta College Art Gallery. There will be an artist’s lecture on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 10:00-10:50 a.m. in room 806, with a reception to follow at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in Building 300. This event is free and open to the public.
Ms. Mainhard’s use of dense colors combined with loose mark-making expresses the pull she feels to the untouchable and what can be seen. Her artwork expresses the interplay between the spiritual and the real, and the components that make up our lives that are more tangible than we realize. Thai strives to capture a fragment of what life could look like in an ideal world without any intentional representation of physical objects. In her opinion, that is what makes abstract art so powerful.
Thai is a 2016 graduate of Shasta College who is represented by galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Naples (Italy), Geneva (Switzerland), and London (England).
The Shasta College Art Gallery is open Monday / Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday / Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. For additional information, please contact Susan Schimke at schimke@shastacollege.edu.
