Please enjoy this gift of an annual holiday card created for us by Doug Cushman, our favorite American in France, someone especially known to A News Cafe regulars in the site’s early days.
Each December, he faithfully sends us one of his delightful art creations. He’s an artist and illustrator, but he’s also a talented writer, too, who’s shared with us a wide range of news from Paris, from delightful stories about food and celebrations, to such heart-wrenching tales as a post about a terrorist attack and the destruction of Norte Dame.
Doug Cushman is a former Redding artist/author who now lives and works in France. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, and moved to Connecticut with his family at the age of 15. In high school he created comic books lampooning his teachers, selling them to his classmates for a nickel apiece.
In the meantime, I wish you a blessed, happy holiday season filled with as much comfort and joy as humanly possible. Feel free to stop by in the comments and share what you’re doing in this days leading up to 2022, and how you’re celebrating (or not).
Me? Twin Shelly and I will be overseeing the annual kids gingerbread house-making. It’s messy, but it’s fun! There’s a family Christmas Eve dinner, to which I’ll bring Judy Smith’s yeast rolls.
Tomorrow, weather permitting I’ll take a long walk, and later Shelly and I will join some friends for Chinese food and playing cards. I’ll sit out New Year’s Eve, but will gather with others for a New Year’s evening meal.
I’m grateful for how things have turned out this holiday season. I’m also supremely grateful for you, and your support of A News Cafe, and your participation in this online family.
Happy holidays and a safe, peaceful new year filled with good health, love and joy.
