• We had a total of 159 new cases on Friday and Saturday (no case work was done Sunday), including 62 men, 96 women and 1 who declined to answer. This data will not always match the data on the state website because we are reporting the numbers as we receive them, where the state delays reporting in order to remove duplicates, cases that turn out not to be Shasta County residents, etc. The differences will be reconciled in our report every Wednesday. The new cases are:
8 children under 12
74 people in their 20s
25 people in their 30s
12 people in their 40s
14 people in their 50s
2 people in their 60s
2 people in their 70s
• Schools are not universally affected by a county’s change in tiers, though they may opt to move to distance learning for a variety of reasons, including staff availability. Regardless of what tier a county falls into, it is recommended that a school closes when at least 5% of staff and students test positive for COVID19 within 14 days, and school districts should close if one-quarter of schools in the districts are closed due to COVID-19.
• Interested in helping with local COVID-19 response efforts? Shasta County is accepting volunteers. To register, visit the Emergency Job Matching Site, click “Register as Volunteer” and complete the requested information. Your willingness to serve our community during this emergency is appreciated!
• Due to the overwhelming number of symptomatic people who need to be tested, people are encouraged to seek testing through the state testing site (lhi.care/covidtesting), by calling their regular healthcare provider, or using one of the self-administered testing or healthcare sites listed at ShastaReady.org under “Get Tested.” Please do not go to a hospital emergency department to be tested for COVID-19.
