Shasta County Board of Education Area 1 Vacancy

The Shasta County Board of Education is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy in Area 1 as a result of an insufficient number of candidates who filed for the November 6, 2018 election. The candidate appointed will serve a four-year term as if elected from December 7, 2018 through December 2, 2022.

Any registered voter who resides in Area 1 which consists of Enterprise, Grant, Redding, and Shasta Union Elementary School Districts is eligible to apply to this seven member board. Pursuant to Ed. Code 1006(a) the county superintendent of schools, members of their staff, or any employee of a school district are not eligible to serve as a county board member, therefore, if they applied and were appointed to the Shasta County Board of Education they would have to resign from their position prior to being sworn-in. This would also apply to any district governing board member.

Regular meetings of the Shasta County Board of Education are typically scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. It is occasionally necessary to call Special Meetings or Study Sessions of the Board outside the Regular meeting schedule. The Shasta County Board of Education also serves as the Shasta County Committee on School District Organization.

Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit an application no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 1, 2018. Applications are located on the Shasta County Office of Education website at https://www.shastacoe.org/office-of-education/board-of-education or can be picked up at:
