Shasta College To Offer Specialized Gardening Classes

REDDING, CA  –  Organic gardening, vineyard care, and pruning for trees, shrubs and vines are 3 new classes to be offered this Spring semester at Shasta College.

 

Grow your way to health by learning Organic Gardening techniques in (AGEH 72), taught by Molly Greenwood. Students will utilize the college’s organic greenhouse and two-acre garden space to learn how to prepare soil, start and transplant vegetable plants, fertilize and control pests. Students will harvest what they grow and learn what is required to apply for and keep organic certification. Class meets Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for the Spring semester.

 

Learn all aspects of setting up and caring for a vineyard in the Vineyard Care (AGVIT 81) class taught by local viticulturist Kathy Roth. This class is very hands-on with students practicing skills in the college vineyard and visiting other local vineyards. Class meets for the entire Spring semester, 5:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m., Tuesday nights.

 

Increase the vitality, health and beauty of your trees and shrubs with the pruning class (AGEH 120) held on Friday, February 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. and on Saturday, February 3rd, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Students will learn to prune all types of trees and shrubs, including roses, to maximize plant health and beauty. The course will be taught by Leimone Waite.
