Redding Electric Utility (REU) has supported roof-top solar systems since 2007 through rebates and the subsidies that net metering provides. In some areas of the REU power system the maximum number of solar systems that could be installed while still providing electric reliability was reached. Those areas were under a moratorium for future installations. REU engineering staff has been working diligently and has developed a solution to lift the moratorium based on technology that is now available for these units to stay on or shut down under certain power system conditions.
For the past 10 years, and since the passage of California Senate Bill 1 (SB 1 – Million Solar Roofs), REU has provided approximately $9 million in solar rebates to nearly 800 customers amassing an impressive 8.1 megawatts (1 megawatt = 1,000 kilowatts) of total solar power generation right here in the Redding community! This program is now coming to an end.
Any REU customer interested in roof-top solar is encouraged to request a rebate voucher by October 31, 2017, while funds are still available. All vouchers will expire within 90 days of issuance or December 31, 2017, whichever comes first.
To request a solar rebate voucher visit REU at 3611 Avtech Parkway or call 339-7200. For general information on the solar rebate program visit www.reupower.com.
