Redding Electric Utility (REU) announced the launch of a new customer program – the REU Electric Vehicle Rebate program. Residential customers who purchase or lease qualified plug-in hybrid electric vehicles or battery electric vehicles will be eligible for a $1,000 rebate plus a $500 rebate toward the installation of Level II charging infrastructure in their home. These customers are eligible for up to two purchase or lease rebates and two Level 2 charging infrastructure rebates bringing the rebate total up to $3,000. Electric vehicle rebates are also available for commercial customers (up to 10 per customer/account).
“REU is pleased to provide electric vehicle rebates to our customers to assist in the cost of this environmentally friendly technology” said Dan Beans, Interim Electric Utility Director, “The rebates are funded by the sale of excess greenhouse gas emissions allowances allocated to REU through the cap-and-trade program.”
The Electric Vehicle Rebate Program joins a number of other REU programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment. Electric vehicle rebates will be issued in the form of a credit on customer utility accounts.
