Off-Duty CHP Officer Fatally Shoots Alleged Prowler

On March 19, 2017, at 3:08 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Country Oak Drive on a report of a subject prowling and attempting to get into a residence through the back door.  Upon arrival Officers contacted the homeowner and searched the area for the suspect, however did not locate anyone.     

While officers were still in the area SHASCOM received a second call of a subject trying to kick in the front door at a residence in the 400 block of Country Oak Drive.  The caller also reported that the homeowner is an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer and he had shot the intruder who was attempting to break into his home.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer inside of his residence while he was still holding the suspect at gun point.  The suspect had sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.    

The suspect’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.  This investigation is ongoing and the identity of the off duty California Highway Patrol Officer is not being released at this time.
