North State Symphony: Get Inspired by Italy!

nss-italy

North State Symphony returns to the big stage this weekend in a program book-ended by Italian-influenced musical culture and landscapes, and featuring special guest artist, Chicago Symphony Orchestra trumpeter John Hagstrom.

The concert begins with Rossini’s well-known and lively overture from the comic opera “Barber of Seville”. From the humorous to the sublime, Chicago Symphony trumpeter John Hagstrom will then transport the audience to another realm with Hummel’s graceful, classically Viennese Concerto in E major, complete with virtuosic embellishments and awe-inspiring cadenzas. In the second half of the program, in keeping with his mission to expose listeners to classical music from live composers, Maestro Scott Seaton will lead the orchestra in Strut, a work by American Michael Daugherty that jives from beginning to end with fearless fiddling and vibrant syncopations, and sets the stage for Mendelssohn’s tour-de- force Italian Symphony to close out the concert.

“Italian classical music, like the country itself, has a warm, vibrant, and romantic ethos that saturates the ear and stimulates the soul in a completely unique way. Besides getting to perform some of my all-time Italian favorites, I’m also thrilled that we’re able to bring a guest artist of John Hagstrom’s talent and pedigree to the North State – it’s not every day you get to hear a virtuoso trumpet soloist, so this will be a treat”

-Scott Seaton

Scott hopes for as many people as possible to attend the free, pre-concert talks one hour before each performance. The talks are sponsored by Richard and Pat Macias in Chico, and the Record Searchlight in Redding.

The Redding concert is sponsored by Sally Wells, while Seaton is sponsored by Rose Crain and Vern McHaney. John Hagstrom’s appearance in Redding is sponsored by Dr. Ronald E. Reece. His Chico appearance is sponsored by Dr. Charles and Mrs. Joan Genthe.
