Annual Fall Arts Weekend in Dunsmuir Begins With Friday Photography Show

Dunsmuir’s 2015 Annual Fall Art Walk scheduled for October 10th is the signature event in a weekend full of arts related activities.

The annual Fall Art Walk scheduled from 1 to 6 on Saturday October 10th, will feature over 30 artists in stores and galleries throughout Dunsmuir’s walkable Downtown Historic District. As always, the center of activity will be the Siskiyou Arts Museum (SAM), which will feature two show openings that weekend and the work of over 75 local and regional artists.

On Friday, October 9th, the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens (DBG) will be unveiling the winners of their Annual DBG Photo Contest at a reception from 5pm to 7pm in the SAM museum. Part of the fun is the People’s Choice Awards, where guests can vote for their favorite photograph. The voting will continue throughout the Art Walk Weekend. Photos will be on display until early in November.

Linda Vivas and sculptor Jack Shaw will be showing work at the Siskiyou Arts Museum in Dunsmuir that illustrate the passage of time.

On Saturday afternoon October 10th from 5 to 7pm, artist, Linda Vivas and sculptor Jack Shaw will be opening their show in the SAM gallery, featuring paintings and sculpture incorporating elements regarding the passage of time. Together their work creates a relational environment between painting, story, sculpture and viewer. Linda has shown her paintings throughout Siskiyou County and southern Oregon. Jack is well known throughout northern California. He has served as Turtle Bay’s principal assistant to sculptors Buster Simpson and Patrick Dougherty. The Vivas/Shaw show at SAM will continue through November.

The Siskiyou Arts Museum has been open in Dunsmuir since March 2013, bringing regional artists together with residents and visitors. Besides regular shows in the gallery and museum, SAM runs a gift store stocked with affordable original art and find craft. In the past year, SAM has expanded to provide workshops for children and adults, and events featuring literary and performing arts and music.
