UPDATE : Attempted Homicide on Churn Creek Road

On November 15th, 2014, at around 11:25 p.m., Redding Police officers responded to the 3600 block of Churn Creek Road regarding a possible gunshot victim. Upon arrival in the area, officers located Michael Mattson (35 years, of Shasta Lake City) lying on the ground. Mattson had sustained a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Mattson was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment and is in stable condition at the time of this press release.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Mattson’s daughter, Brittany Weatherbee (19 years, of Redding). Weatherbee fled the scene in a blue 2002 Ford Explorer bearing CA plate 4WTE325. Weatherbee has not been located at this time.

Weatherbee is currently wanted for attempted murder and should be considered armed and dangerous. A photograph of Weatherbee is included in this press release. UPDATE:  On November 15, 2014 officers responded to the 3600 block of Churn Creek Road for a report of a gunshot victim. Michael Mattson, age 35, was subsequently transported to the hospital for a single gunshot wound. He is currently listed in fair condition.

On November 17, 2014 at 0645 hrs, suspect Brittany Weatherbee, age 19, turned herself in to Redding Police Investigators. She declined to describe the circumstances of the shooting. Weatherbee was booked at Shasta County Jail for a warrant charging attempted murder. Her bail is set at $500,000.
