On Thursday evening, August 28, 2014, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office hosted the 2013-2014 Learning Center Commencement for men and women incarcerated at the Shasta County Jail. In cooperation with the Anderson High School District, Shasta Union High School District, SMART Business Resource Center, and the Shasta Community Employment Center, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has offered a wide variety of educational opportunities for incarcerated men and women to complete various levels of education for their future growth and success. At yesterday evening’s ceremony, Sheriff Tom Bosenko, several of his staff members, and educational instructors recognized nine (9) graduates who were in attendance along with their families. All together, five (5) inmates graduated with High School Diplomas, 19 inmates passed the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) requirements, 11 inmates passed both segments of Math and English courses under the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) requirements, and 12 passed the English course under the (CAHSEE) requirements. This is one of several programs the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office offers through our Custody Division, which promotes a positive influence for those who are incarcerated and provide the necessary tools to complete their education and work towards becoming productive, educated citizens in our community. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our appreciation to all of the Inmate Education Instructors and School Administrators, who have been instrumental with the success of the program, as well as congratulate each and every one of the incarcerated men and women who successfully completed their educational courses.
