Telephone Scam in Shasta County

On Saturday, August 9, 2014, officers from the Redding Police Department received two calls for service regarding a telephone scam.

The investigation revealed victims received a telephone call from an individual identifying himself as a Lieutenant from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect told the victims they had a warrant for their arrest and demanded money from them in order to avoid arrest. At least one victim reported providing the suspect with money.

It has been confirmed the individual calling is not acting in any official capacity with Shasta County Sheriff’s Department.

The Redding Police Department is working with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department to identify the suspect in these cases. Anyone receiving a similar telephone call is encouraged to call the Redding Police Department or the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department.

The Redding Police Department advises all citizens to be aware of potential scams via telephone or mail.
