If you enjoy fresh mountain air, fine local wine and bluegrass music, mark your calendars for Saturday, June 7 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm when Cedar Crest Vineyards & Winery in Manton will host the 7th Annual Bluegrass on the Mountain, a concert and fundraiser supporting local music and arts education.
This year Bluegrass on the Mountain, sponsored by the Manton Music and Arts Council, a non-profit organization that offers no cost violin, guitar, mandolin, banjo, and vocal lessons to area students, will take place during the 4th Annual Tehama Trail Passport Weekend, a two-day agricultural tour across Tehama County.
Saturday’s event gives visitors two ways to celebrate community. “They’ll have a chance to hear some great bluegrass music performed by local students while sampling wines made right here in Manton,” says Corey. “If you buy a Passport Weekend ticket, you will get free admission to the bluegrass festival. That’s a ten dollar value.”
Since 2009, Jim and Corey, along with their kids and grandkids, have been committed to producing award-winning Northern California wines. If you’re into reds, Cedar Crest offers varietals including Syrah, Petite Syrah, Claret, and Tempranillo as well as a red table wine. To make sure everyone’s happy they also offer a light, crisp white varietal, Viognier – which just won a medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition – and a white blend. Rosé and dessert wine round out Cedar Crest’s wine list.
“Whatever your tastes are, we have a wine that suits you,” says Jim.
On Sunday, the Passport Weekend fun continues when Jim and Corey will give tours of the vineyard and winemaking facility, and offer guests a barrel tasting.
Tehama Trail Passport Weekend tickets can be purchased at Enjoy the Store, Tehama Country Visitor Center and online here. Passports include general admission to Bluegrass on the Mountain. General admission tickets do not include dinner or reserved seating. Bring blankets or chairs for lawn seating. A hot dog, chips and soda meal will be available for $5.
