Grant School presents Disney’s Mulan (Jr.) playing this weekend only

Grant School is proud to present Disney’s Mulan (Jr.) playing this weekend only, Friday, March 23 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 and 7:00. Performances happen in Grant School’s Watson Gymnasium, up on Swasey Drive in Redding, right off of Placer Rd. You can get more information at 243-0561.

Based on the 1998 Disney film Mulan and the story Fu Mulan by Robert D. San Souci.

Directed by Bill Collins of Keyhole Mystery Theater fame. Musical direction is by Jeanette Kyle.

The story is set in ancient China, which is being threatened by the terrible Hun armies.

Mulan is a rebellious young girl whose ill father, Fa Zhou, is unexpectedly called to the army by the Emperor’s councilor, because he has no son to join for him. Against her feeble father’s command, Mulan steals Fa Zhou’s helmet and sword, dresses as a boy, and runs away from home to go in his place. The watchful Ancestors fear for her safety and send a misfit dragon, Mushu, to protect and help Mulan as she joins the army disguised as a boy. And glorious adventures begin!

There are 73 students in the show, with another dozen or so working the backstage and tech positions. There are hoards of parents working on costumes, props, snacks for the kids, and a hundred other things that go with a kid show. It is a huge undertaking to say the least!

Tickets are only $5 for adults, $3 for children/Grant students, and children under 5 are free. First row tickets are available for the princely sum of $15 – please reserve those by calling 243-0561. Purchase your seats at Grant School office or at the door before each show. Don’t miss it, three shows only!
