Feb. 3 Drive-Through Tri-Tip Dinner to Benefit Cancer Patient

(Update: Please note that the correct date for this event is next Friday, Feb. 3. We apologize for any confusion, but hope this gives everyone even more time to plan for the dinner.)

Michele Hughes, dental hygienist and single mom, was diagnosed with colon cancer in September.

Redding dentist Gary Howland is hosting a drive-thru tri-tip dinner to benefit his dental hygienist, Michele Hughes, a single mother of two college-aged daughters who is recovering from treatment for colon cancer.

The dinner, including tri-tip grilled by Market Street Steakhouse chef Jason Danley, beans, garlic bread and a brownie, will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Fri. Feb. 3 at Howland’s office at 2275 Park Marina Drive.

Tickets, which must be purchased by Thursday, are $10 each or $35 for a family of four. Tickets can be purchased at Market Street Steakhouse or at Howland’s office. Call 244-4260 for details.

All proceeds from the dinner will fund a North Valley Bank account opened by Hughes’s mother to help pay for the Palo Cedro resident’s massive medical bills.

Hughes was diagnosed with cancer last September following a routine colonoscopy and was unable to work after starting a seven-week regimen of chemotherapy and radiation.

Some of Hughes’s colleagues, including fellow graduates of Shasta College’s dental hygiene program, have volunteered to cover her shifts and donate that day’s wages to her. Hughes said a recent scan indicated she is now cancer free and she hopes to begin working part-time sometime in February.
