Redding Woman Kills Would-be Intruder

Jesse Edward Theis

On Friday, October 21, 2011 at 3:52 am a security officer employed with Wolfe Security observed a subject on the property at Roger Funk Cars located at 5460 Westside Road. The security officer confronted the subject who immediately fled the location. The security officer reported the incident to Shascom and provided a description of the subject.

As officers were responding to the call for service a second caller reported a subject in her yard in the 2100 block of Branstetter Lane. The subject matched the description of the subject that fled the auto dealership minutes earlier. The 66-year-old caller armed herself with a handgun while speaking with dispatchers. The suspect attempted to gain entry into the caller’s bedroom by breaking a window. The caller fired multiple shots during this incident and at least one round hit the suspect. The suspect died at the scene.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing but will ultimately be submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Update: The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has authorized the release of the identity of the subject killed in the Branstetter Lane shooting incident earlier this morning. The subject was identified as Jesse Edward Theis, 37 years of Redding.
