This outlook is issued every Wednesday to update the Sunday weekly forecast and provide a weather outlook for the next 10 days
We start this period off with an unusual and complex weather pattern. A large high pressure area is to our north and this is pushing a very warm airmass over the north state. There is also an upper level low pressure system over central and southern California that will remain there through the weekend.
Thursday (the 8th) through Saturday, Redding will see temperatures of 101 to 106. The low pressure area will pull sub-tropical moisture northward and this will result in showers and thunderstorms over the foothills and mountains. We will be mostly sunny but will see a few clouds, especially during the afternoons.
Saturday, the thunderstorm activity will be more widespread and there could be thunderstorms in the Redding area in the afternoon. Sunday and Monday (the 11th and 12th) temperatures will cool slightly but Redding will still be in the upper 90s to near 100. Showers and thunderstorms will continue over the areas to the east of the Sacramento Valley. Finally, late Monday, the low will begin to move east. Tuesday (the 13th) through Saturday (the 17th), Redding will be sunny with the high temperatures cooling back to the low to mid 90s.

After four years as a weather officer in the U.S. Air Force, Chris transferred to the NWS office in Redding, where he was the meteorologist in charge from 1976 until the office closed in 1996. From 1996 until his 2005 retirement, he was the meteorologist in charge of the U.S. Forest Service Predictive Service Unit. Chris and his wife Jane have been married over 40 years and he works as a window covering installer in her business, Westwood Window Coverings.
