We believe it’s time for Shasta County to talk.
Silence can hurt and stop people from getting the help they need. This is never more true than with the stigma of mental illness and the prevalence of suicide in our community.
In recent years, an average of 38 Shasta County residents died by suicide each year, and hundreds more are left to cope with the aftermath of these losses.
Many of these suicide victims and survivors are among the more than 1 in 5 people who struggle with mental health problems.
Unfortunately, these subjects are often taboo, which means people are left to suffer in silence.
We are people who have struggled with mental health challenges, but we are also artists. We are your friends and your neighbors.
We shared our art and our stories for this exhibit so we could start a conversation.
Once we start talking, we can start healing.
