On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at about 12:43 in the afternoon, officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the report of a disturbance in an alley in the 900 block of H Street. On their arrival, the officers found several subjects restraining a transient female. A male with obvious facial injuries was standing nearby. He was identified as the victim of an assault by the female.
Through their investigation, APD officers learned that the female had been causing an ongoing disturbance in the alley and the victim, a 31-year-old male, had come outside to ask her to stop. She reportedly attacked the victim with a sharp instrument, causing a significant injury to his face. Several males who were nearby were able to intervene, preventing further injury to the victim.
Paramedics from Arcata Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the victim to Mad River Hospital, where he was treated and released.
29-year-old Nicole DuPuis, transient, was arrested on suspicion of felony assault. Due to the type of assault and the injuries suffered by the victim, she was also charged with Mayhem (an additional felony). She was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, where she remains in custody.
