Redding Police Make Arrest in Westwood Shopping Center Armed Robbery

Richard Wesley Broderson

On Thursday August 11, 2011 at 4:53 p.m., Redding Police Officers were dispatched to Savmor Foods at 6536 Westside Road in the Westwood Shopping Center for a reported armed robbery. The suspect pushed a shopping cart full of items out of the store without paying for them, and when confronted by store employees, brandished a fixed blade filet knife at them. The suspect then removed a beer from the cart and fled on foot.

A description was obtained by the first officer that contacted the employees and broadcast to other responding units. A subject matching the description was located in the parking lot of Circle K at 2175 Westside Road. This subject was positively identified as the responsible and had a filet knife in a sheath attached to his belt. He became uncooperative after arrest and attempted to damage a patrol vehicle he was being detained in. He spit saliva on officers and made threats to kill police officers as a result of his arrest. He was placed in leg restraints to prevent injury to himself and damage to the patrol unit.

The suspect was identified as Richard Wesley Broderson, 46, of Redding. He was booked into Shasta County Jail for armed robbery, threatening police officers and an outstanding warrant for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Broderson has three other recent arrests on 4/16/2011, 5/22/2011, and 5/30/2011.
