Man in Jail After Allegedly Spitting on Redding Police

Justin Leon Barnes

On Friday morning at 1:53 a.m., a male adult arrived at Johnny’s bar, located at 1729 California Street. The male was intoxicated and his behavior was disrupting the business and other patrons. Bar security did not allow him to enter the bar. The male subject became enraged and started yelling at other people on the sidewalk. He was antagonizing others and attempting to provoke fights. To prevent any further violence from occurring, bar security personnel began to detain the subject and call police. As they did so, the male began swinging his fists at bystanders and security. He was wrestled to the ground and held until police arrived.

Even after being handcuffed, the subject was uncooperative, and attempted to resist officers. He spit saliva on police officers and tried to free himself from his handcuffs by constantly twisting his hands and wrists, trying to pull them loose. He yelled obscenities and threats to police officers and bystanders. Once under control, he was transported to the Shasta County Jail. He was identified as Justin Barnes, 21, of Redding. He was booked on suspicion of disorderly conduct-public intoxication and assault on a police officer.
