Man Arrested After Allegedly Brandishing Starter Pistol

Redding RV Park, as seen from I-5 southbound

William James Chandler

On Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 8:23 p.m., the Redding Police Department received a report of a man brandishing a firearm at a neighbor at the Redding RV Park, 11075 Campers Court. When officers arrived at 8:29 p.m., they found the man, William Chandler, 59 years of Talent, Oregon, inside an RV at the park.

The investigation found that Chandler had been in an ongoing dispute with one of his neighbors in the RV Park, William Ream, 63 years of Redding. After Chandler threatened Ream in a letter, Ream told another neighbor, Dallas Squire, 19 years of Redding, about the threat. Chandler overheard the conversation and came outside. He pointed what appeared to be a revolver at Ream and Squire. Ream and Squire immediately left the area and called 911.

Police officers had Chandler come out of the RV and then arrested him. They found Chandler had used a starter pistol, which looked just like a revolver. Chandler was booked at the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of brandishing an imitation firearm (417(A)(2) PC). Bail was set at $5,000.
