Blues phenomenon Jonny Lang, a Grammy-award winning American blues, gospel and rock singer/songwriter, will play a benefit concert February 25 at Redding’s historic Cascade Theatre. Proceeds of the performance will go to the new North State Children’s Theater and to children’s health organizations throughout the North State.

During the performance, a guitar signed by Lang will be auctioned to help raise funds for the $14-million, green theater. Redding School of the Arts’ new, state of the art LEED Platinum campus, as well as the forthcoming North State Children’s Theatre, are supported by Foundation for Promoting Arts Education.

Keeping in the spirit of youth empowerment, Lang seems to be an excellent model for a benefit concert. In his early years, Lang, just getting into the music industry, found himself prey to the vices of the scene. Drugs, alcohol and smoking led him astray. Says Lang, “I get to do what I love for a living. But it wasn’t so long ago that I was spiraling downward in a lot of ways.” But he turned things around, which his music, and his lifestyle, implies. “I’ve been so incredibly blessed. My wife and I just had our fifth anniversary,” he said.

Tickets for the performance run $42 to $76 (limited VIP supporter tickets are available for $102) and are available through the Cascade Theatre or by calling (530) 243-8877. Not only will your support afford you a wonderful opportunity to see a world-renowned musician live in concert, but the proceeds will be directed right back to the community.
