The Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery & Cultural Center celebrated the opening of its latest art exhibit, “RED,” on Friday, Jan. 29, in Mt. Shasta.
In the past, it has been up to the jury to bestow Best Of Show honors upon one of the works in the exhibit.
However, for this show, jurors Jill Gardner, Nickki Lee Hill and Nikolas Allen wanted to open it up to the viewers at the opening to vote for their favorite piece. They felt this would encourage community involvement and provide a more interactive experience to the show.
The response was tremendous. When the votes were tallied, the audience had chosen “Cohesion” by Weed artist Brenda Woods as Best Of Show.
In Brenda’s words, “Cohesion shows that we are one. Bound together, from one origin. One stream of life. Connected by this ribbon of blood that ties us together, from parent to child and on and on through generations. My blood becomes another’s blood, and he too will pass it on.”
Congratulations to Brenda!
A hearty THANK YOU to all those who attended the opening and participated in voting.
“RED” runs through Feb. 27, 2010.
Our next opening is for Portraits, March 5, 2010, 5-8 p.m. Come in and vote for your favorite!
