National Health-Care Reform Advocate to Speak at Simpson

What: Health-care speaker Lloyd H. Dean, president/CEO Catholic Healthcare West.

In his executive management role, Lloyd H. Dean is responsible for $11 billion in assets and the overall leadership of Catholic Healthcare West’s 41 hospitals, medical clinics, home health organizations, two health plans, four medical practice groups, 53,000 employees and more than 10,000 physicians in California, Arizona and Nevada .

Dean is a passionate advocate for health-care reform. He helped develop the Healthy San Francisco Program providing health-care for all city residents, and worked with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and California ‘s leaders in championing efforts to achieve state health-care reform.

Dean is also co-founder of several health-care reform coalitions, including the national Health CEOs for Health Reform, formed in association with the New America Foundation.

Dean is the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. He serves on the board of Wells Fargo & Co., the board of Mercy Housing, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing, operating and financing affordable housing, is the vice-chairman of the board for the Bay Area Council, the public-policy advocacy organization for the San Francisco Bay Area.

Modern Healthcare magazine named Dean one of the Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008; and one of the Top 25 Minority Leaders in Healthcare for 2006, 2007 and 2008. Dean is also the recipient of the ‘Partners in Care 2007 Mathies Award’ and a recognized national speaker.
