Damn. I could see going to The Dip all three nights this weekend.

I guess that’s why they invented the word “triage.”

  2. Thank you, Hal, for including our upcoming Songwriter Showcase. I love celebrating Art in the City.

Erin, given all you’ve done for the singer-songwriter community here in the north state, you are MORE than welcome. I’m going to do my best to make it to City Hall for the showcase.

I’ve caught a couple of Nick’s gigs, and now and then he’ll show up to one of my open mics. I really enjoy Nick’s performances and his songwriting, and to listen to people, you might think he’s taught half of the north state to play guitar.

Dan and Natasha of After-Thot have only been performing together for a few years, but to listen to them, you’d think at least a decade. Natasha’s voice is a wonder–think Chrissie Hynde, but with an even richer voice. (Yes, I did write that.)

Sara is not only great to listen to, but fun to watch as she performs. I mean, the joy of performing just seems to rain off of her. (She sings a wonderful harmony on my cover of Townes Van Zant’s “Tecumseh Valley” on my upcoming album, joined by non other than Jim Dyar on the penultimate verse.)

As for Still Married, well, I’ve always enjoyed their music, but the last time I heard them live, it just hit me big time: “DAMN these two are good, and DAMN these are great songs.” (And, I’m still envious of how smoothly Craig sings while playing the bass. When I try to play bass and sing, I feel like an aneurysm is imminent.)

I will ask that when you organize the next showcase, it includes somebody I don’t like. That way, I can write something critical and divert folks from the notion that I’m just a big butt-kisser.

Erin, thanks to you and Craig for everything you do.

    Long live punk!

I’m wishing my friend John Fenner could come up from Santa Barbara for the D.I. gig. John is a walking encyclopedia of punk history.

The Pearls, appearing Saturday night at The Dip.

Sami Jo has returned from Nashville for a visit to the north state. She’ll be playing at Mason’s Pizza in Bella Vista on Monday, September 25, along with Harmonica Steve. Their set will be followed by an open mic session. Things will kick off at 6 p.m. Should be lots of fun.
