Each year Scott Valley Bank offers a scholarship award to one Siskiyou County student and one Shasta County student who have achieved academic proficiency and demonstrated an interest pursuing a degree related to business or finance. The Scott Valley Bank Business Scholarship recipients for 2017-2019 are Yreka High School graduate Taylor Brummett and University Preparatory School graduate Angelique Passidakis.
This year’s Siskiyou County recipient, Taylor Brummett, has demonstrated an interest in business, hoping to one day own her own business in Siskiyou County. In addition to a strong academic background, Taylor has participated in sports including basketball and track, and volunteered at local organizations including Rescue Ranch, the Balloon Fair, and the Welcome Home Barbecue for troops. She has also volunteered locally as a poll worker. She plans to transfer to a four-year school following her time at College of the Siskiyous.
This year’s Shasta County recipient, Angelique Passidakis, has already demonstrated an aptitude for business, working her way up to a management position at Holiday Market in Redding at the age of 17. In addition to her job, Angelique participated in volleyball, basketball, and track, volunteered for a variety of local nonprofits, and served in a variety of school clubs including Leadership Club, Student Government, and Interact Club.
The Shasta College scholarship awards funds equivalent to actual costs for tuition, academic fees, and required books for two years of study (four semesters) for one student with a focus on business or finance at Shasta College. This year, the Siskiyou County scholarship is formatted differently due to enrollment fees at College of the Siskiyous being met for all Siskiyou County graduates via the Siskiyou Promise program. For the duration of the Siskiyou Promise program, which currently offers full enrollment funding and a $200 book voucher to all new COS enrollees who are 2017 graduates of Siskiyou County high schools, the Scott Valley Bank scholarship will fund books in excess of the $200 book voucher for four semesters for one full-time student at COS. Following the recipient’s successful completion of two years of study at COS, Scott Valley Bank will award the recipient a stipend in the amount of $2,500 to apply toward enrollment at a 4-year college or university.
