Redding to Host local March for Science

REDDING, California to host local March for Science on April 22, 2017 in support of evidence-based policy, continued investment in scientific research and education. The local March joins in solidarity with marches held in 427 US and international cities. Marchers will gather at the south end of the downtown Redding Promenade from 10-10:30am. The 1.5 mile march will begin at 11am and end at the Whole Earth and Watershed Festival in front of City Hall. March for Science organizers will be staffing a booth at the festival with information on what you can do to support science in our community, our state, and our country.

The organizers of the Redding, California March for Science warmly welcome scientists, science enthusiasts, and members of the public to come together in recognition of all the ways science touches our lives and betters our communities. Organizers of the national March for Science tout the event as, “a celebration of our passion for science and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community…we are scientists and science enthusiasts. We come from all races, all religions, all gender identities, all sexual orientations, all socioeconomic backgrounds, all political perspectives, and all nationalities…What unites us is a love of science, and an insatiable curiosity. We all recognize that science is everywhere and affects everyone”. The Redding March for Science strives to celebrate diversity of opinion, experience, and interest in the sciences and invites you, the reader, to join us for an afternoon of conversation and comradery.

Participants are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to the event. Water bottle refill stations will be available at the festival. Parking is available in the California Street parking lot and shuttle buses will be running from City Hall to the downtown RABA bus terminal all day, making it easier to return to your vehicle after the event.
