Live Music in the North State: February 1–February 7

Wild Bill and the Mudwhompers perform at Kelly's Pub and Wine Bar Friday, February 3.

Wild Bill and the Mudwhompers perform at Kelly’s Pub and Wine Bar in Redding this Friday, February 3.

Shasta County has lost some notable music venues in recent months, with California Brewing Company, Cafe Paradisio, The Savory Spoon, and Bodega Bay closing their doors. I did get some good news this week, when I learned that a former employee of Cafe Paradisio bought the establishment and reopened, with live jazz on the weekends.

Thank you to all of our local venue owners who keep live music going in the North State, and thank you to our local musicians as well.

  1. Hal, have we told you lately that we love you? We do! Thank you for these great columns to keep us informed of the north state’s live music. You’re a treasure and we appreciate you!

Thank you for the thank you, Doni. Our area has much to offer when it comes to musical talent, and I thank you for giving me the means to get the word out.

I should mention that this column was actually the brainchild of local performing songwriter Jonathan Foster, who plied me with beer before talking up what a great resource a one-stop live music column would be for the North State music scene.

So, if you see Jonathan when you’re out and about, you might thank him as well. You might also remind him that it’s about time for him to buy me more dang beer. 🙂

I saw a great show last week that I would have missed if not for Hal’s column.

And then there are days like today when I look at Hal’s column a day late and kick myself a little because I probably missed a good one last night at Vintage.
