High School students in the Northern California Region will descend upon Shasta High School on January 21st 2017 from 7 AM to 6 PM for the Starstruck “Battle of the North” VEX Robotics Competition. A total of 27 high school teams will be represented from Shasta, Enterprise, Foothill, Anderson, Central Valley, Anderson New Tech., Redwood Academy (Ukiah), Dublin High, Shasta Charter Academy, Will C. Wood High School (Vacaville), Fall River, Winters, and Dunsmuir. The community is invited to attend this FREE, family-friendly event. The teams will compete against each other using robots created from VEX Robotics components and software for education called VEX EDR.
Participants will square off in the VEX Robotics Competition game of Starstruck, which is played by scoring stars and cubes in scoring zones and by hanging their robots on designated hanging bars. This game was developed by VEX Robotics, Inc. and the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, also known as REC, who are leaders in educational and competitive robotics. The top three teams from this competition will advance to the state competition held in San Jose in March, with the chance of competing in the Vex Robotics World Championship in June 2017.
This event is a joint venture of Shasta High School and Shasta College. Shasta College received a grant, focused on the advanced manufacturing sector, from the California Community College, Doing What Matters initiative, a portion of which sponsored $1,000 kits for local high schools to inspire and strengthen their robotics programs.
This event is actively recruiting volunteers, no experience needed, just be ready for an action-packed day.
