UPDATE, 3:24 PM:
State Route 299 West at Big French Creek is expected to remain closed until mid-week next week due to continuous rock slides. A second slide occurred just after 1:00 PM this afternoon and for the safety of all motorists, our crews, and the contractor’s crews, the decision has been made to shut the road until the upcoming storms have moved through and we can work on the stability of the hill.
We will continue to update you on the closure. If there is a chance we can open it intermittently, we will let you know right away. Alternate routes include State Route 20, State Route 36, and Interstate 5.
State Route 299 West is closed 4.5 miles west of Big Bar at Big French Creek due to rock slide. This could be a day-long closure or longer. See http://www.dot.ca.gov/ for updates.
