Shooting on Sacramento Drive

On December 18, 2014 at about 2:15 p.m. Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the 7000 block of Sacramento Drive on a shots fired call. Upon arrival Officers located and detained Ronald Lee Winsell, 50 years of Redding.

Winsell told officers that he was being chased by subjects in the area of Cascade Park on Girvan Road. He stated as the subjects were chasing him they began shooting at him. Winsell ran back to his residence at the 7000 block of Sacramento Drive retrieved a .223 caliber rifle and exited his residence with it. Winsell saw a group of subjects doing construction on a residence across the street from his. He believed these were the subjects who had been chasing him and shooting at him. Winsell fired a single gun shot toward the subjects. The bullet did not strike any of them. The bullet entered the garage door and exited the rear of the residence. Officers did not locate any other residences that had been struck by the bullet.

There were no other reports of any gunshots in the area of Winsell’s residence or the Cascade Park on Girvan Road. Investigators responded and conducted an investigation. It was determined that Winsell did not have anyone chasing him in the area but he was having delusional images of these subjects.

Officers recovered the firearm and several other firearms from Winsell’s residence. Winsell was booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.
