Redding Police Department Collision Policy Change

Due to the limited manpower and increased calls for service, the Redding Police Department has amended the Department Policy related to Traffic Collision Investigations. Officers will no longer respond and take a report for any traffic collision that is non-injury and out of the roadway. If a non-injury collision involves vehicles still in the roadway, officers will respond until the roadway is cleared. Officers will provide the involved parties with an information exchange card.

The Redding Police Department will respond and take a traffic collision report for the following:

  • Injury to an involved party
  • Involved party unlicensed or suspended
  • Involved party not insured
  • Involved party under the influence
  • Hit and run with suspect information

The Redding Police Department has received 1,807 calls for service involving traffic collisions this year.

The Redding Police Department reminds all drivers involved in a traffic collision are required to exchange information per 16025 of the California Vehicle Code. The following information must be provided – the drivers name, address, driver’s license number, vehicle identification number, and address of registered vehicle owner.
