Two Performances of The Vagina Monologues to Benefit Girls Inc. NSV

V-Day Tehama-Shasta will present two live performances of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” a benefit production to raise funds for Girls Incorporated of the Northern Sacramento Valley (Girls Inc. NSV). The shows take place 7 p.m. March 22 at Old City Hall Arts Center at 1313 Market Street in Redding, and 7 p.m. March 29 at the State Theater, 333 Oak Street in Red Bluff. All proceeds go to end violence against women and girls; 90 percent of proceeds stay local to benefit Girls Inc. NSV, which is proud to provide empowerment programs and workshops to Shasta and Tehama county girls ages 6 to 18.

Performed by talented local actors, “The Vagina Monologues” is a collection of moving, often hilarious, heart-wrenching stories that share a common theme: the joys, challenges and trials of owning a vulva. Attendees will hear stories from many aspects of the female experience as individual performers give voice to women and girls from all walks of life. “The Vagina Monologues” delves into women’s sexuality, strengths, sisterhood, humor and much more. A few pieces share the pain of rape, abuse and intolerance. The performance includes adult language and content and is intended for mature audiences; parental guidance is strongly advised.

Attendees will be supporting ongoing Girls Inc. NSV programs for local girls, including group classes that teach girls to nurture their own self-esteem, respect their bodies and each other, and to recognize and defend themselves against harmful relationships. Girls Inc.’s wide range of programs also teach girls financial literacy, encourage participation in sports and community leadership, and mentor girls as they seek careers in science, math, technology and engineering.

Tickets for “The Vagina Monologues” are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. A special VIP pre-show event takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. March 29 at Enjoy the Store, 615 Main Street, Red Bluff. This $25 ticket includes admission to the Red Bluff show, food, drinks, music and more.
