Shasta Land Trust Goes Local for Annual Wildways Kickoff Party

Shasta Land Trust is highlighting local food, local wine and beer, local artists, and local businesses at the annual Wildways Kickoff party, at 6 p.m. on February 23rd, 2013, at the Redding Senior Citizens’ Hall.  Tickets for the event go on sale at 9 a.m. Monday, February 4, and can be purchased at www.shastalandtrust.org, by calling 241-7886, or at the Shasta Land Trust office.

For its biggest annual event, the land trust will be serving sliders made with Prather Ranch beef and local wild rice salads.  Pat Karch’s Jazz Quartet will provide the live music, and the no-host bar will feature wine from local wineries and beer from Sierra Nevada Brewery.  Local artists, crafts workers, and businesses have donated dozens of original paintings and photographs, handmade jewelry, vacation getaways, and handcrafted wooden bowls, chopping blocks, birdhouses, and more for the silent auction and raffle.

Of course, the highlight of the Kickoff is the first opportunity to purchase tickets to exclusive, local Wildways events.  These range from bird-watching field trips and guided history strolls to wine tasting events and small group culinary lessons.  Wildways event tickets go on sale at the Kickoff and are sold first-come, first-serve, and your ‘place in line’ is based on when you purchase your ticket to the Kickoff.  So, the earlier you buy your Kickoff tickets, the better chance you’ll have of getting into the most popular Wildways events!

The Kickoff party is always a great time, with dinner, great beverages, and live music in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere.  This year’s Kickoff Party theme is “Shasta Safari,” a reference to the local wildlife on ranchland that Shasta Land Trust projects help conserve.  To date, Shasta Land Trust has conserved over 22,000 acres of privately owned land in our area.

Shasta Land Trust member, Cassie Simons, states “Attending the Wildways Kickoff Party is truly a win-win situation; participants have a great time at a unique party while celebrating major local land conservation projects and locally crafted goods.  After the Kickoff Party, Wildways events are hosted throughout the year, which are unique events that range from learning how to cook foreign cuisine, to overnight camping adventures under starry skies, to visits at local wineries and breweries, to hunting for exquisite botanical life in endless beds of wildflowers with experts in the field.”

Tickets for the Wildways Kickoff party cost $30 and may be purchased beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, February 4, by calling Shasta Land Trust at (530) 241-7886, visiting the Shasta Land Trust website at http://www.shastalandtrust.org, or stopping by the office at 1918 West Street in Redding.  Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event for $35.  The Redding Senior Citizens Hall is located at 2290 Benton Drive.
