Redding Man Arrested for Pot Garden Robbery

On October 5th, 2011 at approximately 6:59 P.M., officers from the Redding Police Department responded to a residence on Garden Avenue in regards to a robbery and stabbing that had just occurred. Officers arrived and contacted the victim who said he had interrupted someone trying to steal marijuana from his medicinal marijuana grow in the backyard of his residence.

The victim said he confronted the suspect and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the victim’s brother came to his aid. The victim and his brother struggled with the suspect who crashed through their fence in an effort to escape. During the altercation the suspect tried to stab the victim twice with small trimming clippers. The suspect also tried to stab the victim’s dog multiple times. The victim suffered a small superficial cut on his hand, and his dog was uninjured. The suspect ultimately dropped the marijuana plants he tried to steal and fled on foot.

During the struggle several items belonging to the suspect were dropped or pulled from his person. One of the items, the suspect’s wallet helped identify the perpetrator. The suspect was been identified as Christopher Rich, 29 years of Redding.

On October 6, 2011, at 2:45 a.m., two Redding Police Department officers observed Mr. Rich walk into the 7-Eleven store on Eureka Way. Officers contacted Rich and confirmed his identity. He was taken into custody without incident.

Rich was booked into the Shasta County Jail for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
