Old Forecaster: Midweek 10-day Redding Weather Outlook, Sept. 22 – Oct. 1, 2011

This outlook is issued every Wednesday to update the Sunday weekly forecast and provide a weather outlook for the next 10 days.

A large high pressure area over the western U.S is bringing sunny skies and hot weather to the north valley. Redding will be near of just above the 100 degree mark on Thursday (22nd). Friday will be sunny with temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100. Saturday (24th) the high pressure area will begin to move east and our temperatures will cool back to the low to mid 90s. Sunday a storm system will move into the Pacific Northwest with its’ southern end dragging across Northern California. This system will bring a few showers to the north coast and across northern Trinity and western Siskiyou counties.

The Redding area will see a few clouds Sunday afternoon with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Monday (26th) Redding will be sunny with a few clouds in the morning with high temperatures in the upper 80s. Starting Tuesday a high pressure area will once again try to push northward over the west. This system will not be as strong as our current system but should be able to push the jetstream northward into Canada. Tuesday (27th) through October 1st Redding will see mostly sunny skies with a few mid and high clouds at times. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Chris Fontana, aka The Old Forecaster, started his career as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento. After four years as a weather officer in the U.S. Air Force, Chris transferred to the NWS office in Redding, where he was the meteorologist in charge from 1976 until the office closed in 1996. From 1996 until his 2005 retirement, he was the meteorologist in charge of the U.S. Forest Service Predictive Service Unit. Chris and his wife Jane have been married over 40 years and he works as a window covering installer in her business, Westwood Window Coverings.
