What: Be part of the Iconic Bike Ride, From Dam 2 Bridge
When: Saturday (Nov. 6), 9 a.m.
Where: Turtle Bay parking lot
The Redding Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is partnering with Turtle Bay, City of Redding, Bureau of Reclamation, McConnell Foundation and Sierra Pacific Industries to offer a historical interpretive bike tour/ride from one local icon to another, Shasta Dam to the Sundial Bridge, to celebrate the completion of the paving of the National Recreation Trail, the Sacramento River Rail Trail.
The Historical interpretive bike tour/ride will start at Turtle Bay, where people and bikes will be shuttled by RABA and BLM to Shasta Dam. For those interested in the historical tour, we will stop at several historic locations along the 18-mile-long ride and discuss the dam, mining, railroads and other historic topics along the Sacramento River Rail Trail. For those interested in simply riding the trail, you will be able to ride at your own pace and meet the rest of us at Turtle Bay after the ride.
If you would like to join us on the bike tour/ride as we celebrate this milestone, we will meet at the Turtle Bay parking lot at 9 am on November 6, 2010. There will be a brief (10 minute) ribbon cutting ceremony at the trail head and the bike tour/ride will begin shortly after 10 am. We will be returning to Turtle Bay parking lot by bicycle in 2 to 4 hours. There will be refreshments available at the end of the ride. Remember to bring your bike, helmet, sunscreen, a snack and water for this fun-filled event on the Sacramento River Rail Trail. Participants will be limited to those age 10 and up.
